The position indicated on my is map is a long way off where it should be?

(Also read the information on the Check Valid configuration option above).  

• If the Check Valid configuration option is NOT selected, the sentence output by the GPS will always be processed by OziExplorerCE. OziExplorerCE can only plot the position received in the sentence.   If the GPS has not yet obtained a valid fix, the position it reports within the sentence can position you a long way off the correct position.
   

• The map may not be calibrated correctly.

My map is not displayed, the screen is white.

(Also read the information on the Check Valid configuration option above).  

• If the Use Check Sum and the Check Valid are NOT selected, the position obtained from the GPS sentence may be incorrect and may be off the currently loaded map. OziExplorerCE will try to search for another map.  If a map cannot be found to load, the screen will be blank (white) because the map will be scrolled off the screen as it attempts to display the position.
   

• The map may not be calibrated correctly.
   

• Your position may not actually be located on the map you have loaded.

What does the information on the View Satellites window tell me?

• Satellites in view and their relative positions are displayed - red indicates no fix on the satellite.
   

• The signal strength for each satellite is displayed in the graph.
   

• Sats in use - the number of satellites which the GPS has a fix on.
   

• HDOP - relative accuracy of the horizontal position. A low HDOP value indicates better relative geometry and therefore a higher accuracy. (a HDOP of 50 indicates no fix has been obtained)

How can I tell if OziExplorerCE is getting information from my GPS?

• On the Map Menu, select Display NMEA Input.
   

• Sentences as they are received from the GPS will be placed in a list.

How can I improve the time taken to get a fix on the satellites?

• Mount the unit so that it has a clear view of the sky.
   

• A fix may be more difficult to attain if the unit is mounted at too much of an angle or if left horizontal on your seat/dash where it has a limited line of sight to the satellites.
   

• Wait for a fix before starting to drive: It is sometimes difficult for the GPS sleeve to acquire a signal when your car is moving and can take over 15 minutes if a strong signal is not present (if the signal is very weak and you are moving it may not acquire at all). By waiting for a fix before driving you can usually get a signal in under 5 minutes even when the signal is weak; with a strong signal the GPS sleeve will often acquire within 1 minute if you aren't moving.
   

• If your GPS has an internal antenna you can use an external re-radiating antenna mounted externally on the vehicle and the internal antenna close to the GPS antenna to enhance the satellite signals. We have found this to give excellent results

Speeds of less the 5kph are not being displayed in OziExplorerCE?

• This is not an OziExplorerCE problem.  The GPS is in Static Navigation Mode. Static Navigation can be turned off.
